“Bigotry lives not just in our words, but in our actions, thoughts, and institutions.”
― DaShanne Stokes
The recent event of George Floyd’s murder, along with countless lives lost at the hands of corrupt, racist, police using unnecessary force and brutality, has once again shed light on the ongoing injustice that is still very much prevalent in our society. This has gone on far too long, leaving our nation outraged and in anguish.
As Civil Rights Attorneys, we feel an overwhelming need to speak up and fight against the injustice that continues to permeate throughout our culture. Over 1000 people are killed by police each year in the U.S., with people of color 3x more likely than white people. This must be stopped. By no means is this meant as a judgment on all police. Most officers go into the police force to protect and serve their communities. But there is an undeniable systemic evil and bigotry that has been allowed to take hold and operate out of many of the police precincts across our country. While now is certainly a time for grief, it is also a time for reflection and for change. We cannot let this continue and become numb as a nation; content to just sit back idly watching, while others rights and lives are being stripped away from them simply because of the color of their skin.
